"MASON'S CHALLENGE BLACKING" VINTAGE BOOT POLISH BOX
- Late 1800s Philadelphia, PA. 11.25" x 7.75" x 5". Color litho on paper & wood.
We are offering an original "Mason's Challenge Blacking" shoe / boot polish store display box. It originally held 36 #4 polish tins (inner contents is not included). This is a shipping box that, with the lid open, acts as a store display.
The pine box is dove tailed and has outstanding advertising labels on the front and the inside top cover. This vintage advertising display has outstanding eye appeal.
Condition is considered FAIR with miscellaneous surface/stain/edge wear. Advertising labels are aged and somewhat brittle with misc. surface soiling, bubbling, tears & edge separation / chipping. Wood is showing its age with misc. surface/edge cracks, chipping, & light paint writing. Lid is 100% loose from wire hinge, but can be positioned well for display purposes. There is moderate bowing of the lid. When the lid is closed, there is approx. a quarter of an inch (1/4") opening in the front & back due to bowing, but still displays well.
Overall, despite obvious defects, graphic imagery is a still bold and attractive (especially on inner-lid art).
Considering it's age, we feel this item is a very displayable example by most standards (see photos).
It would make an superior display for the discriminating VINTAGE ADVERTISING enthusiast. On a condition code scale of 1 to 10, the above listed item(s) rated - (6).
