Description
Three vintage bistro or cafe trays from 1980's Italy. These are advertising trays for Bel Paese cheese.
They are about 11 inches by about 8.5 inches and have a side wall that is about 1.25 inches tall.
These trays are in nice vintage condition with some signs of wear to the back or side of 2 of them. Please look at the photos.
The graphic images are bright and bold and very distinctive.
Bel Paese cheese was invented in 1906 by Egidio Galbani; he used the name Bel Paese which means 'beautiful country' for his distinctly Italian cheese.
The green tray depicts the geologist and paleontologist Antonio Stoppani who's description of Italy is called Bel Paese. His portrait on a map of Italy is the image of the wrapping for the cheese when it is made and sold in Italy.
The red tray image is from 1929.
The very deco image of the man with a woman smiling at him is probably from the late 1920's or early 1930's.
