5 Decades of S Mint Proof JFK Half Dollars
This collection includes one Proof Kennedy Half Dollar from each decade it was struck at the San Francisco Mint.
The San Francisco Mint started minting Proof coins in 1968; previously, Proof coins were made at the Philadelphia Mint. Each coin is struck multiple times under high pressure to bring out the three-dimensional designs and mirror-like background.
Proof coins are never released into circulation but are made exclusively for collectors.
The coins are not available individually from the Mint but only in official U.S. Proof Sets.
The “S” mint mark appears above the date on the obverse of the coin.
There are five coins – one from the 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, and 2000’s.
Each coin is protected in a clear capsule and the set is displayed in a custom case with a Certificate of Authenticity.
