    Description

The P-51 Mustang was arguably the best fighter of World War ll. Originally created as the P-51B, it was fitted with an Allison engine. This model with the Allison engine suffered at high altitude. A new model was developed and fitted with the Packard built Rolls Royce Merlin V-1650-3-7 engine. This solved the problem and gave the Mustang the high performance that was required. Fitted with drop tanks for additional fuel, this enabled the Mustang to escort bombers all the way to Berlin and back. The Mustang remains one of the most popular aircraft on the air show circuit today, with numerous restored models around the world. A total of 14,819 Mustangs of all variants were manufactured.
The World War Two era 332nd Fighter Group, also known as the Tuskegee Airmen was an all African American fighter group that had distinctive red markings on the tails of their P-51's. They became known as the "Red Tail Squadron". The group escorted American bombers on their missions. The Red Tails claim to fame was that they never lost an an escorted aircraft to enemy fire. Although looked down on at first, they soon became requested by bomber groups to have the Red Tails escort them on their missions.
This aircraft  "Creamers Dream" was flown by was flown by Lt. Charles White of the 15th Air Force's 301st Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, out of Ramitelli, Italy in March of 1945.
