History Background
The CH-54 Tarhe was designed by Sikorsky Aircraft in 1962 for United States Army. Its nickname is called "The Crane", and its company model number is S-64. During the Vietnam War, S-64A transported many heavy equipments, and helped with recycling at least 380 damaged airplanes. In 1968, the company designed a pod for the helicopter to transfer soldiers only. The maximum capacity of this pod is 20,000lb, it can load 45 soldiers or 24 stretchers. Later, S-64E, which was remodeled from S-64A, widely used for lumbering, oil prospecting, cables laying.
