As with the other campaign flags in the line, this reproduction reflects an unsophisticated local printing. Doubtlessly produced on demand for members of the Lincoln Wide Awakes, constituting the youngest subset of the supporters of Abraham Lincoln.
The Wide Awakes stand apart, if nothing more for the street level energy that they brought to the election. The young working class men among its members, seemed to draw the attention of young women, making it not only a social and political party, but also presented the prospect of romantic adventure.
As is well known, they Wide Awakes sported rubber capes, as opposed to woven capes, as they had "no nap". This flag is raw edged and unfinished like the originals we are basing this on. It can be used in a variety of ways, either hanging in a window or stitched to a branch. You can use your historical creativity!
