Description
The North American B-25 Mitchell is a twin engine, medium bomber that was introduced in 1941. The bomber was named after William "Billy" Mitchell who was a pioneer of U.S. military aviation. Used by numerous Allied Air Forces, the B-25 served in every theater of World War Two. Produced in many variants, almost 10,000 were manufactured. These included a few limited models such as the F-10 reconnaissance aircraft, the AT-24 crew trainers, and the U.S. Marine Corps. PBJ-1 patrol bomber. Over 30 examples of the B-25 have been restored, and are still flying today.This B-25 "Made in the Shade" was built in early 1944, and was used mainly as a low altitude strafe and skip bomber. This aircraft was used in America's first large scale bombing offensive in the Philippines. This aircraft sunk eight enemy ships and shot down five aircraft. This aircraft was based out of Serraggia Air Base, Corsica, from November 01 to December 31, 1944. The original aircraft has been restored to new flying condition and is currently based with the Arizona Confederate Air Force.
