    Description

Northrop Grumman 1/48 1991 NATF (USN F-23N) Resin Blank
During the development of the YF-23 for the ATF stealth fighter contract, Northrop was also trying
to develop a Navy variant that would be an advanced stealth fighter, to replace the F-14. Instructions
to the engineers were to keep the new design as close as possible to the USAF YF-23. A large number
of designs were tested on paper, but they were either not close enough to the USAF version, or they
were not compatible with the Navy requirements for takeoff and landing on a carrier. When the
requirements for commonality were lifted, This was the final design considered, and, It has been declassified.
Subsequently, the Navy decided against purchasing any NATF design from either NG or LM.
This is an unfinished solid resin blank, meant to be built as a display or desk model. It was made using
Northrop Grumman CAD drawings. There are only 3 parts, the fuselage and two canted vertical tails. with a two
part stand. A dowel needs to be inserted into the upright and a hole drilled into the model, for
the stand to work. There are no decals. Being a proposal of an aircraft never built, any 1/48 scale USN
decals will do. There are very fine panels lines that should be rescribed before sanding. The drawings are
not included as a hard copies, but can be copied here, or found on the internet. The model is 15.25 inches
long and has a wingspan of 12 inches.
